About the Institution

The Palestinian Standards Institution was established in 1994 by a decree from the late President Yasser Arafat (Abu Ammar) and began its work in 1997 in accordance with the Standards and Metrology Law No. 6/2000. It is financially and administratively independent and serves as the national standards body in Palestine and the point of contact with the global quality infrastructure.

The institution’s role is to ensure high competitiveness of Palestinian products, facilitate trade, protect consumer health and safety, and represent Palestine effectively in the international standards system. It does so by developing internationally harmonized Palestinian standards and providing inspection, testing, metrology, and certification services.

The institution is governed by a board chaired by the Minister of National Economy, with the President of the General Union of Palestinian Industries as Vice Chair, and ten members representing both public and private sectors and academic institutions. The institution is managed by its Director General according to law.
