Safe Products Certificate
What is a chemically safe product?
All definitions refer to a crop produced without the use of pesticides, or using pesticides at levels below the maximum permitted by law. The greatest risk lies in direct exposure to these pesticides during the spraying process or while eating sprayed vegetables, which can result in acute or chronic infection with many diseases. New trends in farm management emphasize the need for all practical activities within the farm to be based on clear and precise work systems that ensure the optimal use of production inputs and, consequently, achieve agricultural production that complies with health requirements. This relies on the premise that the safety of agricultural production begins at the farm. Pesticides are an important input in the agricultural production process and pose a significant health risk to humans and the environment if used in a manner that does not adhere to the rules for proper pesticide use. Challenges Facing the Production of Chemically Safe Products:
- The agricultural system in Palestine is known as an intensive vegetable production system, and as such, there is excessive use of pesticides. The system for producing safe, healthy products that has been adopted relies solely on pesticides and their uses within an integrated management program that focuses on production and disease prevention.
- There are no policies or legislation that limit or regulate the use of pesticides on the ground, nor do farmers have control over their use.
- There is a lack of sufficient awareness among farmers about pesticide use methods and integrated pest control methods.
