Inspecting
The Palestine Standards Institution provides inspection services in the construction, food, chemical, mechanical, and electrical industries. Facilities that have obtained the Institution's marks (quality mark/supervision mark) are monitored by qualified technical staff in various fields of expertise. The specialized staff in each field collects samples and inspects them according to Palestinian specifications/mandatory technical instructions, if inspection is available, or inspects them in nationally or regionally accredited laboratories. The Institution also inspects the conformity of products and goods upon request from relevant authorities or customers, or inspects the conformity of goods to be imported and brought into Palestine, verifying their compliance with the relevant mandatory specifications/technical instructions. Certificates of conformity are issued in accordance with the conformity assessment procedure.
The Institution is mapping the testing capabilities and methods available in Palestine for all engineering sectors. The Institution is currently establishing and developing laboratories for testing (cement, electrical products, and materials), and strengthening cooperation with local and foreign engineering laboratories.
To ensure the safety of the citizens and to maintain their properties the Institution provides inspection services to different technical systems such as lifts, amusement parks, LPG tanks, and petrol stations. The inspection is done by qualified staff, in cooperation with concerned parties, in accordance with requirements of technical regulations and related Palestinian standards.
In order to activate the role of the Palestinian Standards Institution in regulating the market and facilitating the entry of imports that comply with the requirements of technical instructions and approved specifications, to ensure market regulation, protect consumers, and create a fair competitive environment in the Palestinian market, the Institution handles import shipments to Palestine by issuing all necessary official correspondence to the concerned parties, to facilitate the procedures and process of importing products that comply with Palestinian requirements.
Through this measure, the Corporation also seeks to protect Palestinian consumers by supervising products that require some modifications to ensure imports comply with the requirements of the relevant Palestinian specifications before they are distributed in the Palestinian market.
In order to ensure health and safety and to protect against cheating and deception of consumers, a label is affixed. The institution approves labels through a committee for all products, either they are food, chemicals, construction materials, electrical appliances, and equipment and many others. The label is approved at later stage and after detailed review to ensure it includes all the essential information that must be written, depicted, painted, inscribed, affixed, or attached firmly to the product or its packaging, in accordance with the related Palestinian standard and technical regulations.
