Agriculture is the backbone of Palestine, a sector that is important for creating seasonal job opportunities and raising the income of a large number of Palestinian families. The Palestinian Good Agricultural Practices (PALGAP) system is the first national system for the quality of Palestinian agricultural products. It was developed by a national team formed by the Palestine Standards Institution (PSI). It takes into account Palestinian specificities and is compatible with good agricultural practices according to the Global GAP system. It was developed through successive meetings and was approved this year by the PSI Board of Directors, which is in line with the government's development plans for agricultural clusters. The PALGAP system is a set of voluntary standards issued within a system that aims to establish controls for good agricultural practices throughout the agricultural production chain. This system requires adherence to and implementation of a set of standards that address farm management, environmental aspects, worker safety, product traceability, and a focus on the safety of agricultural products for consumption. The Palestinian Good Agricultural Practices system helps:

1. Granting Palestinian producers a special certificate for agricultural products produced within these standards, with the aim of increasing Palestinian consumer confidence in local agricultural products regarding their safety for consumption.
3. Assisting Palestinian farmers and producers who adhere to these standards to gain a marketing advantage in the local and foreign markets.
5. Preserving local natural resources (especially water and soil) through sound practices.
7. Encouraging the use of wise farm management and agricultural activities.
9. Protecting workers and maintaining their health through the adoption of good agricultural practices.

The PalGap system and technical specifications were prepared by the organization's main partners in this field (the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Health, the World Food Organization (FAO), the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Organization, the Palestinian Center for Social Development, the Palestinian Company for Organic Agriculture (COAAP), Oxfam, Agripal, and Bethlehem University/Institute for Community Partnerships) as part of the Yield project, with support from the Australian government through the AMENCA3 project.
