Palestine Achieves a Significant Milestone in International Accreditation

Palestine Standards Institution Obtains Quality and Halal Accreditation Certificates from the Gulf Accreditation Center

Ramallah – The Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution (PSI) proudly announces a historic achievement by obtaining two international accreditation certificates from the Gulf Accreditation Center (GAC): the Halal Accreditation Certificate No. HPC 0104, according to the international standard GSO 2055-2:2021 “Halal Food – Part 2: Requirements for Halal Certification Bodies,” and the Quality Accreditation Certificate in accordance with relevant international standards.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing journey to enhance Palestine’s quality infrastructure. It aims to develop the conformity assessment system for products and services, and to pursue regional and international recognition of Palestinian standards, thereby raising the efficiency of national products and boosting their competitiveness in Arab and global markets.

The international accreditation highlights the prestigious status Palestinian products and services have attained, contributing to increased trust by ensuring compliance with the highest global quality standards. It also reflects the institution’s capability to deliver services that meet international requirements, providing consumers with confidence in products bearing Palestinian quality and halal certificates. Additionally, it facilitates exporters’ faster access to global markets, especially Islamic and Gulf markets where halal and quality certifications are essential prerequisites. This development supports the global motto “Test once, accepted everywhere,” thereby promoting trade and significantly expanding the reach of Palestinian national products.

Notably, acquiring these two certificates represents a strategic step that supports Palestine in signing new international mutual recognition agreements.

This accomplishment was supported and funded by the "Tasdeer" program, financed by the British Consulate, as part of ongoing efforts to empower Palestinian institutions to achieve the highest levels of quality and international accreditation.

In this context, His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Chairman of the Palestinian Standards Institution, Mr. Arafat Asfour, stated:

“This great achievement adds to the record of the nineteenth government’s accomplishments and reflects our firm commitment to supporting national products and enhancing their international competitiveness. I extend my sincere thanks to the teams at the Standards and Metrology Institution for their great efforts and diligent work to achieve this milestone that raises Palestine’s name high. We also highly appreciate the support of the ‘Tasdeer’ program and the British Consulate, which played a pivotal role in achieving this accreditation. This success confirms our ability to face challenges and deliver the best for our industry and national economy.”

In conclusion, the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution reaffirms its ongoing commitment to developing the quality and accreditation system, which strengthens Palestine’s position as a globally competitive state. This achievement is an additional step towards realizing the institution’s vision of supporting the national product and boosting consumer confidence locally and internationally.
