Palestinian Standards Institution Holds Workshop on Mandatory Technical Instructions for Ready-Mix Concrete

Ramallah – The Palestinian Standards Institution held today a workshop at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on the Mandatory Technical Instructions for Ready-Mix Concrete, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), as part of the activities of the Quality Infrastructure Support Project in Palestine.

The workshop was opened by Eng. Haider Hajja, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized that the main objective of this workshop is to provide an overview of Mandatory Technical Instruction No. 79-2019 related to fresh ready-mix concrete, Palestinian Standard No. 55 for ready-mix concrete, and Palestinian Standard No. 130 on the quality management system requirements for ready-mix concrete plants. During the opening, Hajja stressed the importance of factories obtaining quality certificates and Palestinian standards certification and called on factories to adhere strictly to the instructions issued by the Palestinian Standards Institution.

Hajja added that the institution has been striving over recent years to develop the concrete industry in Palestine generally. They started granting quality certificates to ready-mix concrete factories that comply with the specified mix standards and conduct laboratory testing under the supervision of specialized engineers and technicians.

He also confirmed the Cabinet decision obligating ready-mix concrete factories to implement a quality management system according to Palestinian Standard 130, as stated in Mandatory Technical Instruction No. 79-2019.

During the workshop, Eng. Shorouq Marqatn, Director of the Quality and Qualification Department at the institution, presented the importance of Palestinian Standard 130 related to quality management system requirements for ready-mix concrete plants, including key definitions and relevant clauses.

Eng. Abdulrahman Odeh gave a general presentation about the mandatory technical instructions and reviewed Mandatory Technical Instruction No. 79-2019 concerning fresh ready-mix concrete, its objectives, and the necessary procedures to follow.

Eng. Magdy Al-Sweiti presented on Palestinian Standard No. 55 for ready-mix concrete and concrete in general, along with the testing methods and procedures for each standard.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Eng. Hajja extended his sincere thanks to all supporters, partners, technical committee members, and those involved in preparing the standards. He urged factory and company owners to comply with the standards that ensure quality, improve industrial product quality, and enhance competitiveness.
