Standards and Metrology Institute: Approval of 195 Standards Last Year

The Standards and Metrology Institute announced the approval of 195 standards last year, bringing the total number of approved standards in Palestine to approximately 5,000. These standards will contribute to supporting industry, improving quality, and enhancing the competitiveness of national products.

According to the Institute’s annual report for last year, released today, Sunday, the Institute’s Board of Directors, chaired by the Minister of Economy and Chairman Khaled Al-Asili, approved 6 mandatory technical regulations, raising the total issued mandatory technical regulations to 108. These regulations contribute to consumer protection and provide technical references for regulatory bodies.

The report added that 54 new certificates were granted to national companies and factories in the fields of quality, supervision, halal certification, and safe products, while 87 certificates were renewed, bringing the total number of certificates granted and renewed to 141. Additionally, 40 certificates were followed up last year for the same purposes. The total number of companies and factories monitored by the Institute for the Palestinian Quality Mark, Supervision Mark, and Halal Mark reached 596 establishments, along with two certificates related to export conformity.

Furthermore, the Palestinian Quality Council granted 54 new certificates last year in the fields of quality and Palestinian halal certification and discussed and renewed 161 other certificates.

Regarding operational systems, the Institute conducted 3,194 operational inspections of elevators and other operational systems, approved 1,245 data sheets, and carried out 650 technical inspections aimed at granting certificates and conformity for national products bearing the Institute’s marks (Quality, Supervision) across various sectors. It also completed 76 transactions for import purposes, granted 675 product conformity certificates for local products and imports, and performed several tests in the shoe laboratory (38 tests), cement laboratory (71 tests), and electrical laboratory (65 tests), in addition to 226 technical committee and central committee meetings for government tenders.

On the other hand, the Institute calibrated 1,363 devices last year in the field of industrial calibration for factories and laboratories and verified 6,142 devices in the markets according to applied fields such as (gold scales, fuel pumps, and commercial scales).

The report highlighted the Institute’s achievements related to the entry of Palestinian products into Arab markets. During the year, the Institute was accepted as a certification body authorized to issue conformity certificates at the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization for non-food products. This facilitates the entry of Palestinian products into the Saudi market and helps enhance the competitiveness of national products.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Institute and the Iraqi Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. Both parties agreed on the final draft of the executive program for the memorandum, which will be signed by representatives of both institutions.

The report also addressed prominent awareness campaigns that were widely spread across various media and social networking sites, which generated significant public interaction through posts and shares.

It outlined the development and growth of the Institute’s services after identifying all the services it provides and determining the top ten services offered. It was noted that the increase in service delivery reached 14% compared to 2021.

The report detailed the Institute’s achievements as it strives to fulfill its goals by leveraging its material and human resources and implementing theoretical frameworks related to its mission. Responsibilities are distributed among employees according to their roles, locations, and capabilities, whether serving the public sector, private sector, citizens and customers, awareness services, or academic sector services.
