"The Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution Publishes Its 2023 Annual Achievement Report."

Ramallah – In a statement issued by the Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institution (PSMI), the Institution published its annual achievement report for the year 2023, reporting approximately 24,077 services provided to the Palestinian business community and the public sector—an increase of 16% compared to 2022, and a remarkable 388% increase compared to 2013.

The annual report serves as a mirror reflecting all the accomplishments achieved by the Institution through the activities of its various departments. The dedicated teams strive tirelessly to meet the objectives they have set, turning the Institution’s strategic and operational plans into tangible outcomes demonstrated through the ongoing activities, events, and procedures conducted throughout the year. Tasks are distributed among staff according to their roles, positions, and capabilities.
According to the report, the Institution approved 338 new standards, bringing the total number of approved standards in Palestine to approximately 5,000. These standards contribute to supporting local industry, improving quality, and enhancing the competitiveness of national products. Additionally, the Institution approved 5 new mandatory technical regulations and prepared 2 related documents, bringing the total issued mandatory technical regulations to 111, of which 85 are currently in effect.
The report further notes that 35 certificates were granted across various fields including quality, supervision, Halal certification, safe products, good Palestinian agricultural practices, the Palestinian honey quality charter, and the crafts industries quality charter. Meanwhile, 64 certificates were renewed, bringing the total certificates issued and renewed to 99. The Institution received 205 applications and followed up with 1,068 companies and factories concerning the Palestinian quality mark, supervision, and Halal certification.
On another note, the Institution conducted 781 operational inspections for elevators and other operational systems, issued conformity certificates for 6,545 fire doors, approved 821 product data sheets, and carried out 767 technical tests to issue certificates and conformity approvals for national products bearing the Institution’s quality and supervision marks across various sectors. Furthermore, the Institution completed 769 import transactions, issued 502 certificates of conformity for local and imported products, and conducted 56 shoe laboratory tests, 89 cement laboratory tests, and 16 electrical laboratory tests. It also participated in 259 technical committees and the Central Committee for Government Tenders.
In the field of industrial calibration for factories and laboratories, the Institution calibrated 1,378 devices and verified 5,829 devices in the market across various applications such as gold scales, fuel pumps, and commercial scales. It also verified 403 pre-packaged products.
The report highlighted the Institution’s achievements in facilitating Palestinian products' entry into Arab markets. In 2023, the Institution was accepted as a certification body by the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) for non-food products, easing the entry of Palestinian products into the Saudi market and enhancing their competitiveness.
Moreover, the Institution signed 15 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with entities including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Forensic Laboratories, Palestine Polytechnic University, Birzeit University, along with 11 cooperation agreements with local laboratories. The Institution also signed several agreements to facilitate the entry of national products into Arab markets and reached understandings to exempt Palestinian products from testing in friendly countries.
The report also covered major awareness campaigns that spread across various media outlets and social media platforms, which received significant engagement and interaction from the public through posts and shares.
Finally, the report illustrated the Institution’s accomplishments in serving the government sector, private sector, citizens and customers, awareness services, as well as the academic sector.
